hi folks, ive just started a new mapproject called DOM-Frag 'on' Ice. the name of the map is still variable, cause on the first shots of the map u cant see some snow :D - the atmosphere like follows: one of the last days of the fall and its falling no more leaves but the first snow! u will wander between 2 buildings in the nature, some snow are falling, some snow are lying and some teams are fragging themselves - a red liquid is left on the white cold ice crystals. well, therefore u cant see some snow on the editorshots, cause the snow still hasnt begun to fall (i hope ive right written :rolleyes: ) - and otherwise i must end the work with the terrain, to add them a new layer with a snowtexture :D
ok tipps, ideas and any questions to me, in this thread, and now u will see some editorshots and some folks can start his criticism :p

Ra2k,

No criticism, we need all the DD maps we can get...I do have one thought that I am sure you have addressed but I will mention anyways....

Distance between the points....if the distance is great then the bot AI has to be very good to allow for competent defense of the opposing point in singleplayer...if the distance is short then this is not so much of a factor as the player can travel between the points within the Dom time limit....am I making sense here? This was a short coming in the first wave of 3rd Party DD maps released a while ago, IMHO....

Just my 2 cents worth...good luck...screenies look nice and mysterious....looking forward to the release of DOM-frag 'on' Ice

Ra2k,

From your editor shots, it looks like the atmoshphere is excellent.

Is this a large scale map? I can't tell from the pics.

oh yes, i know that the dd maps are missing in the community. but to give a statement to the "Distance between the points" u should look on the next picture.

i dont know how i shall design the left side of the a base and the right side of the b base. shall i build a bigger building complex where the teams can spawn or what do u think?

yes, ive scaled the trees on 3 (x, y and z coordinates) and some rocks on 1.5 till 2. nevertheless u get some new shots, but in the next post lol

and now u will get an information, a world exclusive :D - i still want to tell u somthing more about my map: itll play in the night, therefore so dark, and therefore so horrifying... and nothing again :D - maybe soon!

Would you add the spotlights as a mover so they'll rotate arround? That would be cool!:D

Ra2k,

Couple of thoughts...

Did you ask if you should build one central spawn point? If so NO....build several small spawn points to discourage spawn camping....and place them away from the bases....If I mis-understood what you said then disregard this....

Base A and B do not HAVE to be symmetrical....yes I know every mapper strives for this....but why? Place the Bases at logical points within the Grid and design creativity...if making them symmetrical makes sense for Frag'on'Ice then thats great but if doing so becomes a hassle then do something different....so work with it and see how it comes together....

Just some wild thoughts.....I know....:):)

yes eye, ive thought about it and i would give this spotlights a special movement phase, that means not in a circle, sooner from left to right and so on. we will see. how i can convert/create that :D

and eye, i cant lighted the normally brushes again :( - u can see it, the big black and long things there :p

hmm, wild thoughts :eek: - i must think about it once again, but i would let it symmetrical, but i'll build left (view from the middlebase behind) of the A base and right (view from the middlebase behind) of the B base a bigger coherent building complex :D - in in this buildings u can find later the controlpionts, i would improve they complicatedly with many walks and ways ;) - that was my thought :)

Ejen, the man who wanna know so many things :D - i cant explain it how u will go through the base later. it shouldnt be so big that u can get lost :haha: - but i think u will run 66% outside the level and the left 33% in the both bases. and the way u must run later, will be like the way between the pionts in DOM-Suntemple, approximate.
like said, the bases wont so big, i know the best measures ;)

hmm, myself is wondering why ure wondering :D - cause, if i start a map mit terrain, it always looks so :D - but i anyway must add some new layers with snowtextures, if i have completed the terrain ;)

hehe, nice to hear. and i hope u will have a "doublespecial" place in ur heart, after uve played my map :D - we will see, now im thinking about the name of the map, the name must be changed!
maybe, i start a little poll with some interesting map names, and u can vote! :rolleyes: - ok, i can include php code in a reply, but can i include a php poll script??? that would be nicer than a normally question :D

Thanks for antoher DOM map, soon I'll no longer be able to say they are like hens teeth.

The screenies look promising, I however think the UT2K3, 'light stands' or 'light poles' look bad in natural environments. I like the lanterns / Torches much better. I remember playing Sepukku Gorge for the first time and thinking the light posts looked WAY outta place in that map. I dont think they were there in the leaked version. Gasp!

hmm, i think look great in the nature :D - ^^ my decision :D lol, no. but i wanna also keep the "spotlights" - and the name seems me to simple, i would say too unimaginative, sry - but very great thanks that u like my map! :D

at the moment the name Decay is cool, but everything can change

hey folks, ive edited the thread and have changed the mapname, unexpected but cool, the name is now: DOM-ScornedTombs. the name says many, and i will include some graves :D - there the name was changed, u will get now some new screenshots. now u can see snow, falling and lying. it will be the best if u look simply :D

I love these dark atmosphere outdoor maps. They are my FAV. But those light look like mall parking lot lights. I saw in some maps, there were like these old style lights that were hanging off mountain sides. They were like small lanterns. Hmmmmmm cant remember the name....DAMN
ANd those theater spotlights dont mix well with graves AT ALL!! This is only my opinion.

thx for the dark atmosphere ;) - and i must say u, that everybody can have his own opinion, no problem. also i must say u, that ive cahnged the name after i added the spotlights, otherwise this spotlights are suitable to the bases. u can think that these graves must be supervised strongly :D - cause of this the spotlights, put ur thoughts nothing in the way :p
so, next time i will design some static graves :haha: - then u get nu screenshots!

hmm, i think on the same day like release :D - now i tell you what i must do to call the map finished: i have finsished the right cave of the A Base today, so i must create the left cave for the A Base. the A Base must copy to have the B Base, necessary are some changes in the B Base. then i optimize the hole map, navigation, and so on.

but i have one really huge problem, ive got some big grafhicproblems, problems with the controls of the mouse and problems with the lightrebuild. and all this problem are due on my grahic card and drivers. so i cant rebuild the light proper, some brushes keep black, some not, exclusive all staticmeshes and the terrain. then i cant select these objects (statics, lights, brushes, all...) who i want :( - if i click with the mouse on the screen, the editor select another object. the same problem with the selection is in the texturebrowser, if i wanna click a texture, the editor selects another texture, most one 3 textures below the texture i want :( - that are the hugest problems i have, and i cant do anything against this. maybe i must buy a new grafhic card, we will see. clear is, that i cant finished scornedtombs if the problems arent disappearing...

ive got a 3D Prophet 4500 64 MB (Hercules) with the (older) driver version 14028, cause the version 16055 produce more grafhic faults than now with the 14028 driver. i know that the card isnt so new and i think it wasnt listed in the ut2003 support list. i hope u can help me a bit :)

lol ejen :D - it will, surely and naturally. and u must understand it, there are tropical temperatures in the cave, cause u are near on the earthcore :haha: - but can nobody help me? i need quite fast help!! :D
