Download it, test it and tell me where I'm going wrong pliz

I know there's a BSP issue in the RL room: just a stupid mistake which will be fixed easily in the final version

You can grab the file here (http://www.unrealplayground.com/download.php?mapid=2340)

And check screens here (http://forums.beyondunreal.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=152900)

Thx in advance

OK I gave it a shot, and the map itself was really promising.

Good use of static meshes, and the weapon placement was also very well thought out. Nice place to put the Double Damage

I'm a little disappointed that it's just a tad too large for 1v1's, cause I coulda added it to the dueling list along with Alpu and Compressed ...

I'm gonna go play a few masterful bots and see what it's like.

Thx for your comments :)

It's definitively a FFA map due to its size. Also I'll not recommend it for 2on2. But I plan to work on a pure duel map right after this one is completed: stay tuned ;)

Looks great :)

I would suggest learning some modelling some time in the future, to avoid being stuck in an over used theme but that doesn't mean it isn't a good effort :)

Plays nicely, I don't think the layout is too big, and looks decent also (I like it!)

legacy-Gui
12-19-2002, 06:12 AM
Again, thx to all of you :)

Be sure that I'll do custom prefabs when that'll be required: in fact, I'm not convinced that this sort of map -rather gameplay oriented- obligatory needs custom prefabs but of course it's discussable... When I'll "know" how to use standard prefabs, I'll build personnal ones but atm I think I need to play more with the already existing ones before, in order to get the various subtilities of the new ed

Thx again and don't hesitate to post more comments about everything which bothers you in this design ;)

I love it! :)
This reminds me of the DM-Tempesed sized maps of UT, that could do well for 1vs1, 2vs2 or 4vs4, great job!

Gui...
DM-Hardcore

Very nice gameplay with this map...smooth, flowed well...was alright for 1v1 but I actually found it better when I played in singleplayer mode with 3 bots...that seemed just right for me...

Bot AI was great.

Graphics were done very nicely, meshes etc...very appropriate for the map.

I did come across 2 times when bots got hung up on the lifts but I know that happens...just made them easy targets hehe

Overall bit large for 1v1 but very impressed with this map...

Thank you

Ejen

You're welcome: all the pleasure is mine :D

great job done ! I like it very much...

3 suggestions:

1) make the lift near the rocketlauncher a bit bigger (that with the adrenaline)

2) remove the "escape hole" from the amp, so its more risky to get it

3) make the walls at the top floor without that stuff on it like the floors below, that u can walldodge/boostdodge from every wall to the damp...

Great map. Ownage material. Bien joué!
My only regret is the overdone 'industrial theme'.
I would dig a nice spacecraft or space station one (a theme a bit under represented in the retail maps)

There is a bot pathing bug near the minigun.
The bots get stuck there. They seem to try walking to the platform which is next to it, and they don't jump to it.

Gui, if you could fix that, the map would be even better.

I'm not sure it's a bug but I haven't seen any bots taking the way to the shock rifle, either.

Haven't downloaded it yet but have checked out the screens.

It kinda reminds me of DM-Asbestos & DM-Slam, kinda brings back the old ut style which i miss soooooooooooooooo much.:(

I would download it, but it needs something form that damn bonus pack:mad: which i hate so much:down: which i think is a waste of brandwidth to download.
If it wasn't for that, that map would be on my hard drive!

Look ace map though!

To mappers: if you're looking for 0wnage be sure to make Asbestos-like maps. It pays!

"To mappers: if you're looking for 0wnage be sure to make Asbestos-like maps. It pays!"

This is similar to something I jsut posted over at the UP forums about this map - it gave the impression I though the map wasnt any good - it is a good map -

http://forums.unrealplayground.com//showthread.php?s=&postid=141528#post141528

I wrote loads on there (and yes i know most of the folks from that board are also on this board including Gui).

Anyway - the Bpack has just finished d/l (56k lol!) so im off to explore

this is so Lame, everyone building metal maps, and promoting them to do so is an outrage. ther are 4 new Dm-Metal maps,in the Bonus Pack. This game is getting so boring really fast... Not much new here.

Now here is what i call a Nice "Original" UT2k3 map No is is Not metal .

The environment itself is not what makes this map good. The floorplan and layout is. This map, with the exact same dimensions could have any theme, and still do just as well.

About the only map I've seen yet that I'd call "original" is Crooked Forest, and possibly Tree of Ages. Truly original creations are few and far between, due to the insane amount of mesh/texure design time that would have to be added in.

legacy-Foolhardy
03-12-2003, 01:30 PM
Not everyone is talented enough or has enough time to make completely original maps. To do so, you would need to make your own static meshes, textures, ect. People just cant do that by themsleves, so they borrow what epic gave them.

Game-play is king no matter what.

Great job Gui. Like someone said the theme does not matter here it is the Hardcore game-play something lost in UT2k3 mapping.

Look at the old UT maps... not much originality either, but those maps usually had greater game-play than many others in the community than. I do not see why Cliffyb would do other wise with UT2k3 and just give ownage to maps that have new stuff.

Game-play is Still king. and visual splendor is close second.

I think game-play and Visuals should be equal though. but that is my own thoughts.

Dm-Chainer also got this slack from people. And I like it… I guess I have something wrong my brain ;)

And Slam also got this a tad... and the map plays great...

Yes, the map is final: I just forgot to modify this line in the ReadMe... Sorry for the confusion

A friend of mine has reworked the pathing and some persons from ProUnreal wish I do a LE version so there will very probably be a "fixed pathing" of the map though dunno when exactly: sorry but I'll post in this thread when that'll be done :)

Thx you very much to everyone for the kind comments: it's really appreciated ^^

P.S.: can someone tell me why I don' t receive any e-mail notifications any more? This happens with the Playground aswell... Any ideas?

Uhm wuts happening in this thread:weird:
Why are all you people bashing him for the theme of his map??

Like Desperado said, it's all about the gameplay.
For example that new map of angelheart that mersil was talking about. It's a truly beautifull map, I can't deny that. He did a very good texturing and moddeling job etc. But imo that's it. The map plays kinda annoying. It's scaled very small and imo there completely no hardcore gameplay involved. becuz it's mostly about roof jumping. That's acceptable though cuz this game isn't only about competative gameplay but also about fun. This map has another problem too though, the landmines:bulb:
I keep all cool themed maps on my harddrive, but I end up playing mostly the hardcore maps wich sometimes may lack theme originality.

Hehe another problem I got with maps like 2019 or mersils huge maps is my system, it must be the most crappiest on the planet and the tech maps have the habit of being cleaner and thus easier on performance :p

And doesn't it sound a little unfair to only give the ultimate l33t graphical maya computer silicon valley 3d mesh makers 0wnage.
IMO this DM-Hardcore is teh 0wnage:up:

Edit: ehm I just read the thread that Sharpfish linked, hehe let's not make this thread like that thread. So ignore my post please :p

that was the Point of the new engine, and buying the new game . the visual quality is getting better each year.

there are at minimum 5000 maps that play good and fast. for the original UT . if i wanted hardcore i would play Quake.

just my opinion.

legacy-DeRailer
03-12-2003, 10:19 PM
The visual quality for hardcore isnt bad. It's using a similar style with asbesto and a touch of ironic. I found it interesting.
Being a mostly dm players, I do look for visual, but if it's too graphically busy, it's going uncomfortable to the eyes after a while. I like to see new ideas, creativities in maps, and I had. However, many of the unique maps(i toured more than 4 map databases) looks good, and is fun, but their "fun" usually does not last. Trees of Ages is the most unique map you'll have out there, does it have a real, unique layout? It doesn't, it's going to die once maps with killer layouts and looks appear.

"if i wanted hardcore i would play Quake"
I respected your opinion, but this left me a little stunned. Their gameplay are like ying and yang, so how is it even possible to use this as a comparison. Unless I misunderstood what you meant.(ie, you're refering to the engine)

Btw, being a infiltration forumer myself, I can tell you Relic is a port from UT to UT2k3. It's built to play for infiltration, and you'll find it's quite awkward for ut2k3.

legacy-Rahnem
03-13-2003, 05:52 AM
The visuals in this map seem a little untidy, and lack a little polish, but the gameplay is there. All most faceless style Z-axis stuff here.

When you boil down all the hoopla, gameplay will always come out on top of visuals, as it should.
