I have built a model in maya and given it the male skeleton, i have imported it into unreal ed and applied standard male animations to it, the model moves but only as a whole piece like a statue, for some reason unreal recognises the bones but won't bend them with the animation
can anyone please help, if you can't do you know anyone on the net that may knw the answer to this problem, it may span from maya or unrealed, i'm not sure,,
cheers people, ALEX!

i have used the skeleton importer from unrel, can't remember where i got it but it gives you the real male skeleton, and jugg and other too.
there are dummy joints on the end of each thing like the top of the head and so on, i think thats required, i have bound the skeleton to the model vetices and painted the weights better, then i just exported it as a psk file, i didn't change any bone names,
ony thing i can think of is that the whole skeleton is grouped and the unreal Ed might be moving the group as a whole and not reaching the first bone to find the rest through the hierarchy if that makes sense
any ideas?

Im having this problem as well. I am using the mel script thats floation around on the forums here. It creates the skeletons for the male, female, alien etc in maya. But after you select the root node and smooth bind a skin to the mesh, it only binds the root node and none of the other bones that are its children. Then when it gets into Ued it moves like a statue because only the root bone is skinned to the mesh. If you test the other bones in maya the root one is the only one that will move the mesh all the others dont effect it at all. Does anyone have any ideas?

PS: Apparently the mel script is from someone on the forums called Whargoul

ActorX works just fine here. You guys are using smooth bind right, and not rigid bind? Man, I don't know about this one.
You know, I don't remember any animations ever being released for Maya, only for Max and Lightwave. I don't even know if it's possible, but you might be using the wrong animation file.

Open axoptions and set "underscore to spaces" checked. That would solve the problem.
I had the same problem, and this page was helpful for fixing this.
