View Full Version : TundraMonastery (DmTundra remake) [ANNOUNCEMENT]

I don't usually come here, but one of my beta testers pointed me to a thread asking for a remake of DmTundra. (Now that I know he comes here I question whether he should be testing my map...)

So then, I will announce that there is a remake in progress. In fact, I'm currently nearing the end of a private beta testing, and assuming all the online tests come out as I wish, the map will be released in the final version some time next week. I'll give you guys some screenshots to whet your appetite.

For those interested, the construction involves about 10MB of new static meshes created in lightwave. Unfortunately, I'm not much good as a texture artist, so most of the textures are colormodifiers and shaders of retail textures.

The gameplay has been updated with some more z-axis opportunity, more ways of getting above ground level, and more places to go up there. Furthermore, the bottom of the well is now connected by a tight twisting tunnel to the ice cave, which keeps the flow from dead ending. The ice cave is still very slippery, and makes for some great fights. Unfortunately, because Epic couldn't seem to get the animations right for swimming, there is no water to swim in, the well is mostly dried up, and the ice cave is completely dry.

This is a private beta, don't bother asking for a copy, the full version will be finished when it's done. :p

Looks very sweet!! it is about time the nice looking maps started coming out now. People just don't understand "if a map took you 4 hours to make it is definately not going to be very good. very pretty, can't wait to play! :D

From what i can see of the screenshots - your map is a nice remake of the old map.

Please considder to put in a little more detail/eyecandy like maybe a waving flag up on the tower? (or a karma enabledchurchbel :) ? ) Birds? Some plants/gras in corners. U1 used to have the growing plants that gave you a little extra health. Not only was that very usefull, but also looked nice.

More eyecandy can be made inside the house (painting, hanging lights) and in the snow-cave (flames for lighting the place, or ice-crystals sticking out the roof.) More moving lighting? I can't really judge the skybox from the screenshots, but there are very nice night-sky-boxes available if you really nee some.

And do a round of soundeffects (snow-crackle when you walk on snow, and a different for in the house and church, wind effects up in the tower etc...)

Can't wait to get a hold of your map! Keep up the good work.

I think the tower should be a bit taller. The one in Unreal was huge!!

Cuz hehe I never took part in the closed beta but still have that map over here and it plays pretty cool btw.
I don't know where I got it from though but I'll try and search it.

Tundra was my all time favourite Unreal Map. Loved the wind sound (repetitive but nice), and the feeling of warmth by the indoor fire... the ability to spam the lifts in the tower with the goo gun ;) - not the best `hardcore` map by any means but had loads of atmosphere and was a laugh online back in 98/99, when I first started playing mulitplayer (a revelation).

Hope this lives up to it!
