I have been working on some stuff just been messing around...

the new statics are the face, hands,trees,ice mountain ( one section the rest is ut2k3 stuff), and the land bridge

the skins are not finshed for the the face so it looks rather plain.

Pretty eye-catching of a map there ;)
I love the look of the face, and the way the hands are, well modelled.
Just one question; isnt the walkway connecting them a bit skinny?

it is 256 width... yeah it is a tad skinny :) np it is easy to fix up :D

Since i will have lower areas to enter the bases than i will make mid area where you will have two lifts on it or jump pads not sure... yet...

I hope I can finsh this one so far it is going rather good. unlike my last try... which was tech type map with all new statics here is a pic

this one was kicking my arse and still is... I plan to finsh the face one first though than the Baranco remake with the tech static brushes shown in that pic... and many more..

not much yet :( these are only some stuff I though were pretty cool :)

Next shots will be a lot more advanced into production.

I am going to start remaking some the mountain side and make my own snow mountains... and rocks. Reason is the ones that i used are streched a lot and make the top snow look wrong so I have to make new ones... plus I am sure I can make them look better :)

Yeah it looks good so far.

The architecture is a little busy in the mouths now (so much to take in, in such a little spot), but I am sure it will own us all in the end (no pun intended)

thanks :D So far the map is going good... and I can say that what you have seen right now in these pics is nothing compared to what the inside of the base looks like ;) The next shots will be most likly when I am around 3rd done with this map... I may just put a little teaser shot today just to keep this thread going.

it is really fun and satisfying making everysingle static mesh for the level. I can already see these static meshes being useful for a remake on an old UT map ( think gothic castle like... shane church )

How will the performance be in the end, do you think? Is there an out-of-box map you can compare the fps to?

I am just a little worried that, even though there will be a ton of static meshes and I have a decent system, the performance may be lack luster for such a good looking map.

the stuff I am doing currently is well enough in the standards of most Ut2k3 maps so far the fps is as good as maybe december or mybe in the middle of ctf-december and ctf-magma...

All static meshes are around the same of UT2k3 ones. I am not going to go overboard just yet this is my first map for this engine so I need to understand the limits right now and I am looking alot of stuff from the maps in the box to make sure to keep things optimized. ( also reading lots of stuff tutorials etc... )

I think the map will run very good once I am done i am being very careful of that. I have a pretty low end system myself I do not want to make an awesome map that has crap gameplay or can not even be played lol.

The middle part in the pics is most likly not even half the polys magma has in one view.... I say it might be a third...

as said before here are a few teaser shots... Shane church UT2k3 style ;) btw that nice tile ceiling that bends... it is acually a static models with the indents... So it is not just a nice texter hehe....

Things are going well the statics are very simple but very effective imho...

btw the first and slightly in the second shot... I am using the free cam camera... so it may look like it more tight than it is meant to be... if you see the door way at the end of the hall it is 512 high and 256 units wide the hall is around 512 units or so... plenty of space. I just saw that and the shots looked odd...

Oh yeah... the map is going well i am around half done... now...

the map has a lot of inspiration from Lord of the rings and some other films... plus my own stuff... I might releases a beta in around 3 weeks or so... reason it is that long is because I am getting close to finals in my school and projects have to start right away...

Thanks for the comments… This map will get full beta testing and I will not release it publicly till it is pretty much perfect I will not do the mistakes some of the first ownage maps have done with architecture that stops you a lot and annoying things like that… I feel some of maps being released have forgotten that this game is a Multiplayer game where you encounter a lot of action and getting stuck on mere little stone sucks…

Little ramble… :)

You've got some nice creative artwork going in there. Make sure it has awesome gameplay and flow too and it could easily be the better maps for UT2K3.

Small update on what I am doing... I decided to stop the ctf map for a bit... I am currently half way in finshing my 1 vs 1 map with these static meshes... It is acually a remake of my last map I did for UT... only it is bigger in scale and has more paths... but the idea and layout will be very alike. Trust me when I say that the ctf map will make many ctf maps coming out currently look simple... and yet the frame rate will be great :)
