SOUND VOLUME FIXED!

The only bug i can see that is left is you cannot use hold position from the hud. you can however bind it to a key.

If anyone wants to port the portrait/model and use these voices that would be cool :)

Many thanks to Fraggin_Phun (fraggin_phun@rogers.com) and his web page (http://members.rogers.com/fraggin_phun/UT2003_VoicePacks.html). This release would not have been posible without his information.

Instructions.

Put the Skaarj.upl & Skaarj.u files into your UT2003\System directory.

If you want to change the species, body skin, face skin, portrait, text, sex and game style characteristics instead of using the ones i selected (i copied Torch) edit the Skaarj.upl and use what ever you want. Look in the xplayersL1.upl file in your UT2003\System directory for other configurations. Or if someone wants to port the Skaarj Hybrid portrait/model from UT1 for this sound pack that would be cool. Just gimme credit for the voice :) If anyone from Epic reads this you guys should really think about making the process of binding voices to chracters a little easier!

You should then edit your user.ini file to use the new character. Change the [DefaultPlayer] section of the user.ini as follows:

[DefaultPlayer]

Name=<YourPlayerName> (whatever you like)

Class=Engine.Pawn

Character=Skaarj Hybrid (must match the DefaultName in the .upl file)

team=0

If you want to setup key binds you have to edit the user.ini in your UT2003\System directory (just like before 2136 patch). Heres a list of the voices and their number.

Server Instructions.

To use the new Voice Pack in online games, you must provide the Skaarj.u file and the Skaarj.upl file to the server administrator. The server administrator must put these in their UT2003\System folder, and edit the UT2003.ini file by adding the package to the [Engine.GameEngine] section, as follows:

[Engine.GameEngine]
CacheSizeMegs=32
...
ServerPackages=Skaarj

Very important: The server administrator must also rebuild the server's MD5 database by running the following command in a DOS / Command window in the \UT2003\System folder (many thanks to ZYX2323 for this information!)

For original retail version: UCC MASTERMD5 *.U
For patch 2136 version: UCC MASTERMD5 -c *.U
If you don't run the ucc mastermd5 command, servers with cheat/hack protection turned on will stop you from joining the server. All sorts of bad things will happen (trust me), including corrupt connection messages (often seen only after the first game). This is a standard restriction that affects all voice packs, unless the server has added the .u file AND rebuilt their master MD5 table (or added the packed to the existing MD5 database).

Here's a very important update for anyone making UT2003 voice packs:

There is an excellent push content tutorial recently released by Joseph M. Wilcox at Epic (see http://unreal.epicgames.com/UT2003/tutorials/push/). This new functionality introduced with patch 2186 makes deploying custom content (including voice packs) in multiplayer server games easier than ever! No need to manually send any files to clients without the voice pack anymore; ALL the required content downloads automatically from the server now. :)

Based on that tutorial, I have

- Updated the original Fraggin_Phun UT2003 Voice Pack tutorial with instructions on how to enable push content for voice packs (see http://members.rogers.com/fraggin_phun/UT2003_VoicePacks.html)

- Updated the original HomerJay3 UT2003 voice pack with the push content functionality enabled. It also includes the script source for people interested in knowing how to do this. It is very easy by the way. The new voice pack version is linked near the end of the tutorial.

Cheers! Fraggin_Phun

(if you can do that ... then I can too ;))
Botmanager v1.5 can automagically create & compile the required packages for server-push too ...
