It's time to give up matching the original map and making it look awesome in 3d.
Nali city thrashed my map, I enjoyed it thouroughly. :D It really was lacking in a lot of departments. So that got me to thinking, how would my map not be thrashed by reviewers? It was time to give up near-likeness and add some UT2003 beauty to it.

There is an OGG version of the song... but I kept it separated from the map because I don't want to upload that 3 megs every time I update the map...

Its simple really
Use a good SPC plugin for winamp then use the Disk Writer plugin that came with winamp to convert it to a wav. From there you can use any of the OGG converters out there

Dude, I have 2 requests. I haven't tried the map yet, but:
- The roof. Like in Smash Bros. With the towers and junk. And with tornadoes off in the distance in the skybox or something.
- The music - either the 'classic' music they use in the Smash Bro's Hyrule Castle level, or the one from SSBM - the temple one. Damn that song owns.

After unzipping it, I have all the files (a usx, utx and the ut2) in the Maps folder, when I try to open it with Unreal it says 'Unable to find package for Zelda3' What am I doing wrong and anyone wanna play it online (list server IP/name) Thanks!

omg! this map is amazing! All that it needs is to be completed (outside and throne room) I have never seen a better 2d to 3d conversion! and the pings I get are amazingly great!

Like what? Mario? Haw haw! A level one meter wide and a kilometer long... never mind.
The only game I can think of that I'd convert would be Zelda 3. You'd be lucky if I make another zelda map, though. Of course, with a lot of meshes and textures and conversion formulae in place...
Did I ever mention that I think the next Zelda after this cel shaded one should be based on Zelda 3's plotline? I thought the golden land/dark world theme was awesomeness. It would be interesting to see the mirror world concept applied to a 3D game... also I'd have the the seven wise men backstory really beefed up to be on the scale of the Lord of the Rings intro... mmmmmmm... epic battle sequences... Okay, enough dreaming for now.

I was thinking along the lines of a more serious drawing style rather than the comical style that's being used in the Gamecube zelda.

I believe there is a static mesh of one of the player models converted into a statue, in one of the EndGame packages
EndStatic.statue, by the look of it. It's over 3000 polys, though, so you don't want too many of them around.
I'm pretty sure the original UT models are available somewhere in 3DS or Lightwave format, they would be a more sensible polycount for a decoration. Or if there's a UT custom model you liked, see if you can get a static version from the original author.

Sorry, I decided to not go with statues. I made a substitute decoration instead. :cry: Yeah, some of you will be bummed out about it, but them's the breaks.
Oh, and I also denied another request... no swinging doors on the outside... how the heck will people properly get out?
Now I'm depressed that I didn't get a job I interviewed for. Don't expect too much from me...

I need opinions on two things. First is if I should scale up the size of the level. If I do that I'd also like to know the best way to pull that off. The second is the rotating staircases. I can see how bots might have a problem getting up or down them... or will scaling up the map fix it up or something? Ah well. Just tell me if you see any serious flaws with the map or have any great ideas that may be in my range of accomplishment.

Download Desert Crisis, (www.desertcrisis.com) or just load the map up in Single Player HL if you wanna see it.
Also, you can do whatever you like since this is your map, but I would like yours smaller. o_O I feel like I'm a midget. And yes I know Link was a midget too, but most UT2K3 players aren't Link. :D The players look too small in comparison to the map IMHO; I'd rather have them appear taller and the same width, than the same height and a lot skinnier.

Glad you scaled it up - I played the earlier version and thought it very cool - but cramped - getting hooked up on the stairways etc..
to the other guy about scaling - when PLAYING it feels right but the reason most characters looks tiny is cos EPICS scaling is off - its hard to get right atm between first/third person. - the maps that look good in third person (Curse3 for example) are a little too tight from the players point of view. Hopefully they can either scale down the first person or scale up how we see others.

Yes the map plays 100 times better since you took my suggestion and scaled it up. You are not done yet, you have to add in the details "eye candy" this one of elements that make a great map. So go ahead and model Zelda's throne and what ever else you think will add to beauty of your map. Another element you have to consider, say to yourself "what makes my map stand out above other maps?" You need to put in a element of FUN! Example secret doors, secret areas, fun things and off the wall game play. Also choose some mood music for your map,listen to zelda mp3's convert the one you like most to ut2003 format and have it with your map for distribution.
Go all out with your map pretend you are getting graded for it in school.

Exactly. The song file is what, 3 Mb and the map and all its support files are 1 Mb... I don't want to take four times as long to upload every time. Don't you worry, though. The final release will be one all-encompassing file.

The Zelda3Statics file should be in the zip, and it goes in the StaticMeshes directory. Also, the texture file Zelda3 goes in the Textures directory.

ya... i downloaded the new version and i redid it. it worked. thnx anyways. very nice map too melaneus. it brought me back to thepast so much that i had to go play zelda for a bit.... i had forgotten everything... :D but i did get to hyrule and walked around. perfect renderition! :D awsome job!

My map isn't even for this GAME. I already made a thread for my map in the forums of the appropriate game. I was just showing Melaneus similar work I have done, and offering suggestions that I think would improve his. It's his final decision though.
Oh, and about the scaling thing, I haven't read these forums in a while, so I didn't know until I looked for myself. Yeah, the scaling in UT2K3 is universally a bit off, now that I think about it.

I just now played in this map...and i got to tell you, it ownz! godamn i love it! even though i played little in teh actual game (Zelda that is). just one thing i noticed wrong - bot pathes in the prison cells down below...a bot went running from a cell to teh next all teh time...she got stuck in teh table and got back and done it again...so i had no bot coverage...against two angry godlike bots :bulb:...well, i won teh match...

I'll look into that tomorrow.
I'll try some screenshots, too. I've added a few 'secrets' to allow for jumping to other parts of the map. It's mostly to make the map less linear.

Now there are some warps to get around the level. I thought of the sparkles that the mirror made from the game as the basis for the emitter.
Feedback is sweet. If you have any technical issues with the map, I would very much like to hear about it. If you have any aesthetic suggestions, within reason, I'd would like to hear about it too. As for my personal goals... the top 5 things I need to do before this goes gamma. I mean, final release.
1. Make bushes for courtyard
2. Make better dungeon table
3. Add a few details outside of courtyard walls
4. Maybe a Triforce decoration for the outside tower
5. Lighten up a few very very dark corners
I feel the level's work coming near an end... or maybe it's my patience. :p

I still to this day hold that Zelda: A Link To The Past is one of the best games that I’ve ever played (big kid, me :p). It’ll be great to strut around in the Castle from a whole new perpective. Downloading now. :up:

Ive never played the game on the console - though I loved both zelda games on the N64.
So, I wanted to point out to others who have not played the original game that this map is based on - this map plays VERY well!!!

Well, I decided to take a break from SwitchArsenal and get back to some Zelda mappin'. I am now deviating from the original game layout and going for better visuals and gameplay. Here's the little bit I've done so far.

It would be great if a Hyrule Map came out. Hopefully it'll look a bit like the level from Smashbros melee:p But how big would the level be? :weird:
I made a hyrule castle map, and it's available at UT2003hq.com and PCGameMods.com. It's designed to resemble the original map from the SNES zelda as much as possible.

Thats cool, i think i'll go and download it now, by the way, on the Unreal2k3 stat thing i'm tekamuchi, as in the game.:D
