I have come up with a great idea for an UT2003 modification. But I need a team of modders to pull it off. Basicly my idea is to make a racing game using the UT2003 engine. Many of the needed features are already in the game such as the ability to drive vehicles and the excelent Karma physics engine.

I can make a website for it and as soon as I have one i'll post the link up here.

I will need the following team members to pull it off:

Programmers (to code the cars, and make the game front end)
Mappers (making race tracks and whatnot)
Moddlers (making new car models to be used in the game)
Texturers (to help the moddlers make the cars and to provide textures for the maps)

I also need a name for the mod. At the moment the working title is 'Unreal Racing' but if anyone has any other suggestions then let me know.

If anyone wants to help the contact me via email at gardulla_the_hut@yahoo.co.uk or please post a reply to this thread.

I think you are looking to make a whole new game. You need to get about 1000 programmers and about $20,000,000 in budget.

No he doesn't.

A similar mod was done for Q3A. It was done very well too.

It did cost them some time though...

Hmm, actually a large chunk of that time was spent getting the vehicle physics right, and with vehicle physics already crammed in UT2003, you will have significantly less work than that other mod team.

Just need to tweak the physics of each vehicle so they handle differently from each other.

Like quake 3 rally?
It took them I think about a year to make that mod.
Do you have that amount of time?

:D

Better make it better 'cause I don't like the feel of q3 rally.

I figured that it may take some time but the way i expect it would work would be to spawn the player as a vehicle instead of as a person and as you drive round the track you would gain a 'point' for each lap, The first person to get enough points (i.e do all the laps) would be the winner.

As for it taking over a year, I was imaging the first version being released with a few tracks and maybe only four or five cars. As the mod is played by the public certain bugs will be found which we can fix and release in the next version.

BTW. I have made a temporary site for the mod at http://thermite.sourceforge.net/unrealracing/. Visit it and tell me what you think.

I've done alot of C and C++ before and a fair bit in PHP but i've never touched upon UnrealScript.

I wanted to make a racing mod for ut2003 myself, but I'm allready doing 5 project's (only one for ut2003). How do you plan to get it done? and if your not a complete screw up or quitter, I would gladly give you some of my precious time for this mod.To be honest a racing mod is pretty easy to do,all you need is one good coder and a few mappers. There are already many car meshes available that can be edited to work.Even the old ut cars, to make some sort of F-Zero mod. I can see this hapening...........if you can properly organize that is.

PM me if you want to learn u script and do this,it will be childsplay for you if you know c and c++ already.

Ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh???

What are you talking about...i made a race-map myself in about 3hours...I also changed the speed of the car, the subspension, the weight of the car etc.etc.

The map has got jumps, loops, bridges, audience, pits(just for decoration...you canīt repair the vehicles, iīm working on that but i donīt think it will be so couse i know nothing about uScript:( )

The map is not finished yet but it will be soon.
Itīs the first map iīve made in uED3.0

Iīve herd that uScript is based on c++ ...at least it is very similar to it.

OK..Chimaira, if you could send me either some screnshots of the map you're working on or email me the .ut2 file, then i'll have a look. I'm going to try to get hosting on planetunreal.com but they ask for some evidence of work already done.

Once I've got hosting we'll have a forum where we can start to formulate ideas.

I have a profile for the mod at www.moddb.com which you can view at http://mods.moddb.com/625/.

I have always wanted something exactly like this in UT2003 or even Unreal2.......

I wish I can participated full time BUT can't........However, I can donate a few racing car models to this mod.......from associated modding authors around.....

You can also checkout "Mobile Forces"...another unreal based engine mp game..they also have a racing mod called Mental Race......check them out.

Hey, Half-Life did it something like this (Half Life Rally http://www.hlrally.net/news.php). Do you still need a coder? I'm pretty new at Unreal, but ive programmed before. Ive worked on a few HL mod projects too.

Wish List....

Hood mounted redeemer

Seriously tho, an option for weapons would be great. Ever play Re-Volt? Quite a blast to bottle rocket the guy in the lead, and replace him.

Quite a bummer to have him oil-slick you just before the track squeezes to one lane.

Here's an idea.. Make a game type where you start off on foot and you have to hunt down a vehicle.. make sure that there are always only as many players as there are vehicles, but they're spread out, and if you fight for one and lose, you have to go find another. Then have a hugeass track with speed jumps and stuff like in that old RC videogame.. Just to make it more possible to catch up and stuff if some people get a head start.. Set a number of lives, for instance 5.. you reach 5 and you're out of the race. Whoever gets to the finish line first has to battle whoever else makes it in a little arena at the finish line to keep their position.. They have the advantage of getting the powerups first, but they still have to show some skills to win.. They shouldn't have an incredible advantage like 199 life and 100 shieldbelt.. Either one or the other perhaps.

Edit: There would be a scoreboard or indicator of some kind to say who is in first.. If their lives run out, whoever is in 2nd defaults to 1st place and has to now defend, if anyone else is still left to fight.

I could see myself playing a game like that for ages.

How MadMax type racing..........while racing you simply shoot your opponent off the track. Last player remaing on race track wins the race!

Or even a crash derby shoot'm up!

Check out the media section of the site for some brand new screenshots of one of the racing track maps. It is called Sunset and is designed for a small number of racers. While your there don't forget to admire the new media gallery.

The site can be found at www.planetunreal.com/unrealracing/.

Promising screenies.
Looking forward to this one.

You old enough to remember 'night driver'? an old arcade game, later done on the Atari 2600. Anyway, the premise was driving at night with just the raodside refelectors to quide you. A night tie map as such might be worth checking out. Standard UT torches or other lights could be used in lieu of the reflectors.

Oh, and look at this, foud it on Unreaplayground

I can make you a forum at www.unrealseries.com as I am that site.

My 50 cents:

Weapons are nessacary for at least one mode and then make health effect speed.

You'd go to the pitstops to get cured and so you can go faster.

the pitstops could just be a place where all the health is and weapons are..

My icq is 71709463 and my email tom@unrealseries.com if you need forums or any web help.

I noticed he has a site up somewhere. There was a link on PU or BU a few days ago, but I cant remember the URL.

There were lots ingame pics, so I guess its well into development.

(Even though the models and tracks looked like they could use some more work in the quality department.)

Yeah, we've got the cars working ingame now. With about 6 models so far but with plenty more to come. We've only got one track done but even that isn't finalised yet. We've still got a long way to go.

Talking bout racing mod, Since ut2003 has been released i had the idea to create the ultimate Carmageddon 2003 version ! Cars, Karma, Gore, what more needed? :)

Im just a simple gamer, Its maybe a cool idea, but i dont think anyone is gonna try it , altough its a nice idea ;)

Lemme see, according to you, cool idea = nobody will try it. Yeah that makes perfect sense.

Plenty of people will try it.

One of the gametypes we may be implementing will be a Carmageddon type game. We haven't finalised all our gametypes so it could be in the mod. You'll have to wait.

Couldn't this idea be also made into a Grand Theft Auto type game?

Has any one made a map with Karma vehicles that works online?

I've seen one but it was very buggy. ie.-after I exited the Bulldog the camera stayed put but I could run off into the distance.

Frankly I think UT2k3 is a drag. UT rocked but 2k3 is a dumbed down ver. with better graphics. A GTA-style MOD would kickass! all the fun and mayhem of GTA with the online play of UT.

my .02$

Matt- having multi-Kama objects, isn't that a big performance hit?

wha tare you on
you cant say the engines worse because its buggy

the orignal is **** cimpared to ut2k3

i hope you know the bulldog wasnt even finished
its jus t there to show moddersv the fcapabilety of the new engine

do you even know what an engine is

ffs
try runngin the graphics of ut2k3 on ut engine is and see how good the engine is then
