Hey, i was thinking for awhile now on the future of video games and questioning myself about it. Games are getting more realistic... look at Gears or Mass Effect, they look really close to real life, but i started to wondering if video games would ever end... like video games got so realistic... that no one would want to buy them cuz they already live a 'realistic life'.
But I really want to go into Video game design, I couldnt get into college this year so I decided to go to work and save up for residence in (While my parents pay for my tuiton)... Calgary, Vancover or Toronto... cuz those are the only places i've seen that have Video game schools *sigh* yet the most expensive places to live. But i started to wonder... video games are becoming bigger and bigger but what happens if one day video games ended... there was no surpassing one level of game (not like level in the game, but level as realism)... You think this would ever happen? Cuz as much as I love video games I am having alot of mix ideas in head about video games just ending at one point
I have been wondering this cuz like i said i want to go into a video game college and I dont go through 4 years of schooling then find out there isnt anything to do... What do you think?

That made me think. I have no idea how it'll be in the future but about the part where you said "that no one would want to buy them cuz they already live a 'realistic life'." I doubt that'll ever happen. One of the main draws of video games is that you can do anything. There's a limit to what you can do as a human but as a Gear for example, you can go on a journed through a wasted worled and slaughter/chainsaw:D all the locust. I think that for the recent future there will definitely be a market for video games, they just need new ideas. I know I'm not stopping.

Videogames are here to stay.... for better or worse. Even if the games get \"too\" realistic i doubt that people would stop playing them, because people can\'t headshot someone or chainsaw somebody without killing them. Its going to take different ideas and new invations to keep people intrested.

I'm also thinking on going for game design, once of course I'm done with my nursing degree, you must have something solid to fall into just in case game design doesn't work out for you.

There will always be a market for video games as long the ideas are fresh.

I think the VG market isn't going anywhere soon.

The thing is there will never be a game where you just live a normal life, we use videogames to do stuff we cant do in real life (like chainsawing a locust) Videos will probaly get to a point where the graphics are close to real (Like think in 100 years or compare video game since 1990 to today Only 16 years later) But the gameplay will always be about doing stuff you cant do in real life! :)

You but we are slowly reaching a point where we will just be doing the same thing over and over in a video game... the graphics sure they'll be close to so realsitic, but look at most Japanese RPG's... 1/2 of them are still Turn based (which i really love), and then the others are slowly going into full active time battles or look at first person shooters for that matter! Click and shoot. But when will we just be tired of doing the same old thing over and over again?
Also Wouldnt politics come into play if graphics were TOO realistic for a game like... GTA.... some idiots will probably ruin everything! ^_^

Ya but the wussy democrats can kiss my ass! (just kidding no offence meant) also in a long time eventually gameplay will catch up with the graphics! :)

As much as the democrats try to set up laws for games, they always are going to lose in some form. Gameplay would have to catch up with graphics because nice graphics are nice and all but if the gameplay sucks, whose going to hav fun with it.
