Very nice map indeed but the fog is there for the lower end computers like mine, well ok just the vid card hehe.

i know, but he should change the colour of it as the distant hills look so bright.
i think a nice blue fog would do.
although it ran superfast on my comp and should work fine without fog.

I'm not sure if is the crappy video card in this computer (at work) or what, but the fog/distance effects suck...
... you move forward and trees just appear.
Beautiful map though.
Oh, and the lighting... ummm... what is the point of making a sniper platform (on a giant mushroom) if you can't see anything from it because of the blinding lights?
Not sure if it is just this machine... I'll try it at home and/or mess about with the settings.

Looks sweet... I'm actually glad that the mappers has gone away from all that gothic feeling... really, it got pretty boring after the first ... 2-3 maps... :)
Hmmm... Is there any map theme that we are really missing out on?

Cool map! Such potential there.
Fog is WAY too much, run the map and type SHOW FOG at the console and you'll see the map in a brand new light.
This guy could get ownage someday!

Again, great map and yes the fog does nee sorting. It could also do with having the bot paths tweaked to stop them running the wrong way half the time.

Really nice map - looks good and plays not bad. At least it doesn't have spwaning points right beside the goal with a handy weapon like Skyline - what's that all about? - killing opponents puts you at a disadvantage!
And it isn't low grav - another plus.

This map is great, i like how when you score a 7 pointer your reward for getting a goal is NOT falling to your death. If they were to get rid of the fog you could sniper the defenders on the other side, so i dunno about the fog, they do need to decrease it though

I love this Seuss theme. Any second I expect to see the Cat in the Hat come strolling by. NICE work. Agree about the fog, though. Can't wait for the final. To paraphrase Flounder in Animal House: "This is going to be great!!!"

There's a problem in the beta. There's a bit of terrain somewhere below the center where the ball is that's like a cup and evidently it is above the kill zone or something because one of my team bots fell in there with the ball. He was half buried in the terrain and couldn't get out. So I jumped down there after him and got stuck the same way and had to suicide.
Sorry, I didn't get a pic.
I don't remember if the 'cup' was on the red side or the blue side of the mountains.
The bots also seem to have a hard time deciding to run for the goal when they've got the ball. I don't know why. It was just average skill level but that should be enough.
But this is a beautiful looking map. I almost forgot to mention that. :D
And I liked it a lot better with the fog toggled off.

About the music....
...never thought I'd hear the beackground music of the PC port of "Ecco The Dolphin" again :)
Would it be possible to mail me the .mp3's or .ogg's ?
That music is very cool, nice to listen to when you want to relax :)

yep as I said on the BU forums this map is great (inventive and atmospheric) the fog IS a problem, needs to be a little more natural ( the fog end and fog start parameters need adjusting - fog start should be less or fog end should be more to make a wider `wedge` of fog instead of the visble fog line) - also needs blending with the sky box (skyzone info - saem colour fog sfog=1 endfog=1) but then you loose the `saturn` skybox..
Hope for good things from the final release.

probably been covered quite a few times already, but if you have the translocator available for BR, you can toss the trans somewhere in the map, and after you go thru the goal, if it's the selected weapon, you normally have time to translocate to safety before hitting the deathtraps.
it doesn't work for maps like BR-Skyline where death is instant the second you touch the goal, but for most maps like anubis and others where you have to fall or move a bit before you trigger the death trap, you have time to get away without dying.

The only "bad" thing about the map, is the draw distance seems a little short . . . I mean I see things appearing in the distance as I near them, and it looks bad . . . it doesnt look like fog, just as if they are being rendered as I approach them? Hope this helps.

You don't have to delete all the fog. You could just change the parameters a bit or alternatively make the lower skybox the same color as the fog.

This map is awsome! Yes the fog needs tweaking to allow for better play and still maintain goos frame rates. But otherwise incredable!
The map also reminds me alot of Dr. Suess :)

OK, I just registered to this forum, but my nick over at www.unrealplayground.com 'Unicorn' is already taken so I had to choose one of my other nicks - 'Rhinofire'.
As for the map, I'm working on it. The most trouble I'm having is with the bots. If anyone has a good tutorial for the AI in UT2003 please post it. As for the music, my friend is working on a similar tune as the one I used in the beta1 version for the map.
I changed some of the custom models I made in 3ds Max. The picture is showing some of it.

excellent work! i didnt se it brought up so the only drawback i see is the ease in which players can reset the ball by just throwing it over the sides... on a more 'arena' style map id say just add fencing or barriers of some type, but thats not so easy here, if theres anyway to creatively prevent this and still maintain the look of the map id do it...
anway - looks great, cant wait to play it! :up:

by the way i can only play it at the moment by typing SHOW FOG otherwise i think it makes the map look from lovely to ugly so i hope that changes before the map is completly finished as it needs to be improved.

All you have to do to make no fog permanently is go to the ditor, open the map, go to zone info, and then go to distance fog and make it false. Save it. There ya go, no fog and you don't have to type anything into the console.

This is true, if the fog stays, the FPS increase a bit. If the fog is gone, it may look better. This is a fine balance that I don't know how to solve yet. As well as AI. If anyone of you find a tutorial on AI, well darn post it, lol. Coz I need it very bad.

Three things about this map that need to be worked on:
1) fix it so when you die you don't fall through the map.
2) fix the bot AI
3) fix the fog color/distance, or get rid of it altogether.
It looks great however, and plays good too (besides point number two ^)

Okay, I've tried this map and I LOVE it. It's just awesome, reminds me of Alice in Wonderland/the JJ@ Psychadelic levels. A few things though.
- The fog helps boost fps, which is good. However it looks rather unrealistic and there might be a bit too much of it.
- The bot ai could use some tweaking, you need to find a tutorial soon. :p I'd like to see them shied jump off shrooms and lob rockets at the goal just before you leap through it. :up:
- Runs well on my system, but the more fps the better. It gonna get optimised later? :)

ok, for one, the 7 ponts is a breeze to get, its not any harder to get 7 than it is to get 3, i think its a joke, anyway, that is bse, the person could site in the lions mouth with a flak cannon or rocket launcher and totally own...so its not fair at all, you should be killed when you go through the 'net'

Dieing when you score isn't writen in stone. A few of the BR maps that come with the retail you just either go through unharmed or teleport a little ways back.
I think to avoid a camper in the mouth that perhaps a pain zone could be put in there. Something that if you sit the for more than 20 seconds you would die.

The author, Unicorn, is a member of our forums (http://www.unrealplayground.com) (happy to say he's also working on some meshes for me for my map. (http://www.unrealplayground.com/mapper.php?id=50)) He says he's taking his time to get it just right. Last I checked he was working on a bug and some performance issues.
I'll be happy to wait for this beauty even if it takes months. ;)

I really enjoyed this one.
Sure it still has some flaws (fog needs to be adjusted amongst some other things already mentioned here) but it's still a beta. And boy does it have potential! :)
BTW: If you jump through the goal the waterfall should carry you along under the goal (=dead when you hit the ground way down). Would be pretty cool.

Yeah. A really nice map with some fatal flaws. But I hope Unicorn finishes it soon. I have the beta in my map rotation and everybody likes it. :)

Wow, i love this map, i had to turn off Fog to enjoy it though :p Fog is a problem, tone it down, but dont completly remove it, a misty feel to this map would feel just right.
This map is beautiful, the music you chose goes perfectly with it a nice ambient feel.
One thing i dont like about it is that you have to jump onto the piller or dodge onto the piller to get the ball, that would be a problem with a fast paced match, a simple suggestion, connect that piller to the bridges next to it, so you can walk straight onto it.
Other than that and the fog (I know its a beta) Really good job, i love it, cant wait till it is released. GOOD JOB ! :)

He's fine--- just has a major real-life (WORK) project that is keeping him from UT... he's got something cooking for a project of mine and said it might be end of December for that.

I just looked at my map list the other night and noticed this map was a beta. Now, today I found this thread. You guys need to chill. If he finalizes it (which I think he will), then great! If not, then there are tons of other maps to try out. All you spoiled little bastards are the reason Epic/DE released an unpolished UT2003.

I just looked at my map list the other night and noticed this map was a beta. Now, today I found this thread. You guys need to chill. If he finalizes it (which I think he will), then great! If not, then there are tons of other maps to try out. All you spoiled little bastards are the reason Epic/DE released an unpolished UT2003.

Um BR-LionsGap has been on ice for a while, I've had a zillion things to do. Many people mail me about LionsGap and that I should finish it pronto. Well I just opened the map again in the editor and I'm currently refining it. First of all I have to say I'm sorry for the huge delay of this map. I know alot of people love it and therefor I will finish it. I have had a lifetimes work on my shoulders since november last year. I have been searching for leveldesignjobs and been doing all sorts of testcases for gamecompanies. Now finally I got a job at DICE ( the ones that made Battlefield 1942) and can concentrate on the mapmaking for UT2003.
And YES i DO care about what the community thinks. Without feedback my maps wouldn't be at least half as good as they are.
If there still is interest that I finish it, I will. I have 3 more unfinished maps for UT2003 coming as well. One that is almost finished, a 2vs2 CTF map.

Yep, this is my favourite custom BR map along with BR-Decks. Been waiting for it for a while.
I do recall getting a crash with it when I had the first UT2K3 patch (2166 I think). I can post the error message here if you want, I have it in a notepad file:

Are you going to tone down the fog a bit? While it keeps the map running great, it makes the lighting guns virtualy useless.

The fog is gone. It didn't improve FPS anyway.
I have a question tho:
Do I need to block the view between the lions so that sniping the ballcarrier when he reaches the last bridge won't be possible? If I need to fo this I probably will have to rethink some things on the map. Maybe creating a huge treemesh or something that blocks the view.

Yeah the Statue is a good idea. And looking at the lionheads, I think yur skilled enough to make one hell of a cool statue:)
A huge tree would look kinda eh weird imo, especially when you consider that it's gotta be a huge tree if you really want to block the snipers.

Well I asked you guys here to give me some ideas of how to block the LionsGaps from snipers. I'd like to hear what you want. And I just released CTF-Raw (http://www.unrealplayground.com/download.php?mapid=2270) at this (http://www.ina-community.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=269681) tread here at ina forums. So I have been a little busy lately. But I have changed some of the pillars and corrected weapons placement altitude since the RL's was on different heights in both bases. I have added deathzones in the Gaps and removed the fog. The irritating hole in the cliffwalls are gone so no more trapping the ball there.
But then again I need to block the view between the bases and the Lion's Gaps. Give me ideas on what to do please.

I cannot draw, but since it is called Lionsgap, maybe you can make a blocking lionstail (comming from underneath), maybe add a few stone paws/claws on the side of the walkways so it would look as if the lion hangs on/under the level?
Maybe you can use a lions claw to block? Or a fountain of some kind? (to block the visual)
If you take a look at the surroundings it might even be possible to create a tall mushroom(purpleish small/tall one??). But i still think some parts of a lion should be there.. I'll go and check the level again to see if I can figure something else out....
I am really thinking hard, but I'm a useless artist ;)
This is still one of my fave levels. I think you are a great designer and artist. Keep it up!! :up:

Yeah I know that it is too open and I never intended to release it but I did and many liked it. Now I have to make a final of it even tho I don't feel as much inspired to do it. Sure I could rebuild the whole map and make more z-axis but then I would not be fair to those who like it and don't want to put that much time on it.
For Plumb: I might even remove the stones permanently as they only screw things up.
