why are the other characters with helmets called "red shirts"? well thats what the avatar thing says, any theroies?????

i was bored and started to think about that, maybe someone from EPIC could help....

Red shirts... Like the British.. errr.. that's Red Coats... Hmm.. I have no idea. ;) Maybe it has something to do with the red cog symbol. I'm thinking it has something to do with the cog. That hypnotizing symbol that beckons me each day on these forums.

its a reference to the old school Star Trek :p

when Kirk and crew go out on a new planet, he would lay one of the busty aliens and the guys in the red shirts would get vaporized or worst... well lets just say there not coming back...

so in this case the red shirts are the solders that are fighting along side you or around you, they have no names or any true story, but there always there to take a locus grenade for you ;) ...... lets just hope they dont suffer from Stormtrooper syndrome ;)

Yep, it's a Star Trek reference. I'm not a big fan of Star Trek but I wiki'd it and the term basically means cannon fodder :)

I actually saw a screen shot from the Single Player demo where one was getting chainsawed so i think they're just another branch of drones... thats just my theory :)

Like we said, red shirts effectively means that they are cannon fodder. They are the black dude who gets killed first in all the horror movies, they are the guy who gets shot by the sniper in war movies, they are the guys whose job description reads "Meat Shield". :)

I think the final thought is that the red shirts are the unnamed COG troops... soooo any troop that runs in to a room only for the pure amusement of watching them get grounded in to squishy COGburger milk shakes... if you dont get what im saying then go out and rent any of the old star treks.. you'll get it by the time they visit a planet ;)

now the question is, who at epic is the trekkie :D

They are cannon-fodder COG soldiers, grunts and the other terms Snake described. They follow you until you meet up with Alpha Squad and their the ones in the E3-06 movie, you know the ones dying by mass numbers ;) they are just cannon fodder like Marines in Halo, or other soldiers in CoD.

I think its because they are such fearsome fighters, their shirts get covered in blood, hence turning red.

Sorry, wrong thread. I would think the "red-shirts" would be rookies. Maybe recent recruits thats why they have more protection. Or the fighters from the other side of the Pendulum Wars. Their nation would have had fighters as well.
