Just finished watching the Gears of War: The Race to E3 on MTV. As stated by one of the, i guess producers from Microsoft, the Saw was to gory. I'm hoping this isn't an indication the Saw will be removed from the gun. After seeing the Demo from E3 i'm very excited to rip through some Locust, as i'm sure everyone else who has seen the same will agree. Any input would be great.

Ya!!! I had seen the whole gameplay vid and way in pure shock when i saw the chainsaw... words cannot describe the beauty or "destroyed beauty" of gears of war!:eek:
a chainsaw sniper would be mad,
it would be the best of both worlds (long range and close quarter fighting)
but sadly i think it doesn't have it on it,
only the Mg has it from what iv'e heard

Yeah that would be pretty sweet, but putting a chainsaw on almost every gun may make this feature a tad bit over done. Although maybe placing this feature on a few select guns, depending on AI, may make the gameplay a bit better.

Yer chainsaws on everything would get a tad out of hand,
matbe it should be a multiplayer option "chainsaw mascre" the chainsaw gets added onto all weaponery (this may all ready happen as we don't know much about the game)

Yeah customize your own weapons for Mulitplayer. On that note creating your own weapons for single player and or Co-op. But thats just me.

It re-airs saturday (today) at 6:00pm Pacific Time so 9:00 eastern (i think) on MTV 2. Someone has alreasy posted the vid though in this forum.

While the chainsaw is cool and brutal, I can see it being over-done. I was thinking that they could add in fuel cartridges for your chainsaw, kinda like ammo magazines. It just seems like everyone is going to be trying to chainsaw eachother all the time. While that may be awesome initially, it takes away from the gun play and the cover system. Being forced to use your chainsaw more sparingly could make those chainsaw kills even more satisfying.

Totally agree with you flash. I can see where it may get old and drug out using it all the time. But from the looks of the game and how the AI play out, I don't think getting up close to them is going to be easy. I'm thinking the Chainsaw is going to be a last resort type of weapon. And if you can get close by all means use it.

no worries, we have lots of ideas for balancing the chainsaw. you can actually counter it fairly well right now if you see them coming... so just make sure you never let yourself get flanked. :)

I honestly don't see what the big deal is about the chainsaw. Doom 3 had a chainsaw. The content was of course mature, as goes in Gears of War.
Too gory? Err, I thought Gears was rated M? It's just a chainsaw.
They are better off saying a simple gun shooting a enemy in the face is "too gory".
Epic, keep the chainsaw.

Trust me I know. I think most people are looking forward to this feature more than others. For most games a little blood just ain't enough. You rip a chainsaw through someone or something blood better spray. I guess this is where the too gory came in? Ohh well, the more gory, the better.

That is a very good point. The guys at EPIC said they have the chainsaw gun at a point were it really isn't just one after another. The demonstration demo featured lots of chainsaw kills but that is just because they wanted to get a message across. This is not 10 year old boys Halo. Plus that was the trademark item they wanted everyone talking about. Plus, I even heard each weapon has its own brutal finisher, but since the assault rifle is your primary it will be used more oftenly. If you think about it, none of the demos show what anyother gun does when you go up to a Locust and bash the controllers B botton. Hopefully they can have a brutal "close-encounter" for each weapon so that it doesn't get repetitive. Also, the demo's don't really show this, but if you run after a guy (like in Cliffy B's Demo) to chainsaw him your'e gonna die. It will be used alot less in the final build just because you wont have the oportunity to use it repetitively because the Locust's will shoot off your head!

I noticed that the Locust have limbs that can actually be severed with a shotgun blast. I've only seen the forearms get blown off but I was wondering how awesome it would be to slice right through the neck of one of those beasts. I know that may pretty harsh but I'd like to see some variety in the kind of kills with the chainsaw. :)

I noticed that the Locust have limbs that can actually be severed with a shotgun blast.For some reason I am heavly reminded of Turok 2 on the N64 by that. :eek:

Definately! I love when you see marcus pop around a corner and blow off one of the locust's arms! Such a beautiful moment in games if you ask me!

Yup, you could hear the audience cheer after a blast like that. I was so pumped after I saw that. I had no idea you could blow a limb off. This game just oozes cool.

Hehe, the chainsaw is just a real good idea from Cliffy, but I don't understand why he compares it with chocolate+peanut butter. Because that's a really bad combination imo. :p
choclate and peanut butter is an awesome combo,
expecially if you put some cheese on it and toast it

Yeah but that games wierd though, anyway. They feature such awesome gameplay features like shoving a tampon in the bullet wound of your partner to clot the bleeding. Looks like EA is focusing more on gimmicks then actual gameplay.

Regardless it's still wierd, haha. I read the article in EGM about the game and really don't see what made them think it's the #1 most anticipated game... GoW looks about 50 times better, haha.

Yeah I'll agree GoW does look alot better. But it kinda make you wonder how he shoves the tampon in.... lol
